June 14-15 2025: Busy weekend - Post Formosa-Pacific Shellhole 1st Anniversary Meeting, Taipei Baboons International Rugby Club annual long lunch, Taiwan POW Society service for WWII US Airmen's Remembrance.

ACE Founder Bernie Moore's role as Assistant Old Bill for the Post Formosa-Pacific Shellhole began a year ago. The MOTH, or the Memorable Order of Tin Hats, is a brotherhood of ex-servicemen and women founded in South Africa in 1927 post WW1. It was established by MOTH founder Charles Evenden who was an ANZAC veteran of the Gallipoli campaign. The MOTH is a support network for those who served in the armed forces, focusing on helping comrades in need and commemorating all servicemen and women worldwide, both in wartime and peacetime.

As a former president of the Taipei Baboons, Bernie was recognised by the club this year and awarded the Silverbacks blazer for his contributions to the club.
Acquiring his proper measurements required a lot of subterfuge as a very close family member was recruited into a cabal that smuggled one of Bernie's suit jackets to be used as a template and then cleverly sneaked back home un-noticed. Nice work that woman!

Then, on Sunday morning in his role as board-member of the Taiwan POW Memorial Society, Bernie had the honour of reading the names of the 25 US servicemen who were needlessly and illegally executed near the end of WWII by the Japanese forces in Taipei 80 years ago. Those young men gave their lives during war so that we could have our freedoms. Lest we forget.
A special weekend - spending time with those who make the present we are all fortunate to enjoy and honouring those who fought for us to make these freedoms happen.
